Want a high score? Forget luck. Here are the best score tricks for Crossy Road that top players actually use. I learned these the hard way.
Don't stare at your chicken. I know you want to watch your character. But that is a trap. Your eyes should be glued to the top of the screen. Look three or four rows ahead. See the cars before they become a problem. Your peripheral vision will handle where you are right now. Your focus should be on where you are going.
If a path forward is blocked, hop sideways. That is it. You do not always have to move forward instantly. I see new players freeze or make a stupid forward move into traffic. Just swipe left or right. Wait for a gap. Then go. Side-hopping saved my chicken hundreds of times.
If you are on a tablet or playing a Cross the road game online, flip your screen to landscape mode. Trust me on this. Landscape lets you see hazards coming from the left and right much earlier. On a phone in portrait mode, a car can appear out of nowhere. On a tablet in landscape, you see it coming from three lanes away. My highest scores all came from landscape.
Find a rhythm. Rapid-fire tapping feels fast, but it leads to mistakes. You tap into a car because you did not look. You hop onto train tracks because you were rushing. A steady "tap-tap-wait-tap" rhythm works better. Tap twice to cross two safe lanes. Wait. Look. Then tap again. Slow is smooth. Smooth is far.
One more thing. Do not chase your previous best score. Every time I tried to beat my record, I got nervous and died early. Just play. Focus on the next lane, not the number at the top. The score takes care of itself.
These tricks took me from a score of 50 to a score of 250. No cheats. Just smarter playing.
